The Four Podcasts You Need To Be Listening To

on

With everyone constantly on the go, the age of audiobooks and podcasts hs emerged. Audiobooks and podcasts make listening to fascinating stories incredibly easy. Personally, I am a big podcast fan. They are quick, interesting, and new episodes are released regularly, giving you new content to enjoy week after week. For the past few years, my interest in podcasts has grown and I have found, in my opinion, some of the best podcasts out there. If you’re interested in becoming a podcast addict as well, give these four podcasts a listen.

99% Invisible

If there is any single podcast I consistently recommend to people, it is 99% Invisible. A show created out of “beautiful, downtown Oakland, California,” this design-oriented podcast has grown significantly over the years. Roman Mars, the host of the show, has the best radiovoice — it’s clear, crisp, and he has a natural storyteller tone. The podcast itself revolves around the design and unknown stories of all the things we normally don’t notice or think about. Whether it’s the design of sports bras or the NBC chimes, the topics 99% Invisible covers always spark an undiscovered interest. Something else amazing about 99% Invisible is that their is something for everyone. They cover an endless amount of topics, so you’re bound to find a few episodes that you’ll enjoy. Out of all the podcasts I’ve ever listened to, 99% Invisible is my top choice.

Ear Hustle

Debatably the most unique of the bunch, Ear Hustle is a relatively new podcast to the Radiotopia family that is created and produced in a state prison. Spark your interest? Well, it should. It is one of the most fascinating podcasts I have ever listened to. The show features a number of different inmates from different walks of life, all giving their opinions and insight on life in prison. Only two seasons in, this podcast has touched on topics such as personal upkeep and stories of solitary confinement. It’s incredibly powerful hearing their stories. And just think about how much hard work it is in order to run a podcast in a prison! If you are on the hunt for a podcast that is truly one-of-a-kind, Ear Hustle is a must.

Fashion Unzipped

As you can tell from my other podcast choices, my interests stretch further than just fashion and beauty. However, my go-to fashion podcast is The Telegraph’s Fashion Unzipped. For all you fashionistas out there, this podcast covers everything from festival fashion to Saudi Arabia’s first fashion week. Honestly, it’s a total guilty pleasure for me and I totally love it. I mean, I totally didn’t know I wanted to learn about the science behind jean making and the new laser-print contouring jean-making techniques, but I totally did as soon as I started listening to this podcast. Fashion lovers are bound to fall head over heels in love with this podcast.

Breaking Beauty

Fashion Unzipped is for all the fashion lovers, and Breaking Beauty is for the trailblazing beauty lovers. I discovered this Breaking Beauty thanks to Refinery29 late last year and I have been obsessed ever since. The show revolves around interviewing the biggest names in beauty and their path to success, plus episodes giving the lowdown on the latest and greatest in beauty. As an avid beauty lover myself, this podcast is my jam. Beauty lovers unite and go listen to Breaking Beauty!

  1. I live podcasts too!! A friend introduced me to Stitcher and the podcast Serial. Their series about Adnan Syed was so riveting, I was obsessed! I also like storytelling podcasts like The Moth. It’s so interesting hearing stories about anything and everything from all types of people. Some stories are duds but some episodes I found myself crying or laughing out loud at every story. I could go on! I’m giving your suggestions a listen, especially the prison one. I have a friend who I know will like that one as well. Thanks Annena!

    1. Oh I’ll have to check those podcasts out! I hope you love these podcasts and I hope your friend loves Ear Hustle. It’s an awesome podcast.
