Oh, drugstore skincare. My friend and my foe. I am a firm believer that you can find some holy grail, amazing skincare products at the drugstore; however, I’m also a firm believer that not everything lining that Walgreens or Target skincare aisle is going to be worth your time. It’s a can be a total gamble. It can be even more of a gamble when it comes to anti-aging skincare products. This is a realm of skincare that I believe the drugstore just can’t quite do as well as higher end retailers. But that doesn’t mean I won’t give affordable anti-aging serums, oils, and moisturizers a shot. Although I would love to be able to drop a cool $200 on that one anti-aging moisturizer that has 24-karat gold in the formula and will also make you look completely ageless, I just can’t justify it. Not yet at least. So for now, I strive to find kick-ass, affordable, anti-aging moisturizers that actually make my skin look good and don’t break me out.
On a recent scavenger hunt in my local Walmart’s skincare aisle, I came across L’Oreal’s Wrinkle Expert Moisturizers, a new range from the beauty giant. With a range of 3 different anti-aging moisturizers, these moisturizers sparked my interest. I decided to pick up the L’Oreal 35+ Wrinkle Expert Day/Night Moisturizer and give you all my thoughts on this affordable new skincare range.
First impressions of this moisturizer were interesting. They were interesting for a very particular reason. This range is targeting people of a very specific age. In case you didn’t pick up on the detail in the product name, this moisturizer is meant for/marketed towards men and women who are 35+. The other two products are targeting those 45+ and then 55+. Each of the products appear to target aging in varying levels. The 35+ moisturizer is advertised as an anti-fine lines product whereas the 45+ moisturizer is advertised as an anti-wrinkle product. I have mixed feelings about naming the products based on the target audience’s age. I am only 24, but I definitely have some fine lines and wrinkles meaning I could probably benefit from the 35+ moisturizer or the 45+ moisturizer. If I went and picked up my moisturizer that literally says age 45+, it honestly makes me feel a little bit negative about my skin. Why, wrinkles, why?! I’d rather the products not a have an age range on it. I’d rather just by my anti-wrinkle cream and not feel like, “Whoa. L’Oreal thinks people 45+ need this moisturizer and I’m only 24.” I’m not sure if I’m making much sense, but I just don’t love the target ages as the product names.
As for the actual product (aka what you came here for), I have a few thoughts. Don’t worry, I won’t go on another rant. The formula of the L’Oreal 35+ Wrinkle Expert moisturizer is quite nice. It’s a very creamy formula with a medium thickness. It’s not too thick, but not to watery. The consistency makes it perfect for a day/night moisturizer. As for the scent, it’s classic L’Oreal. L’Oreal skincare products just have a signature scent and this moisturizer is no different. And that’s not a bad thing! I like the scent. It’s very subtle. The product itself doesn’t irritate my skin or cause any breakouts, so I imagine this product would be worth a shot for those of you with sensitive skin. And as for the results of the product, this girl still has fine lines and wrinkles. I don’t expect this to eliminate my wrinkles. I do expect it to help slow down the aging of my skin and make my skin look smooth and youthful. And I think it does! My skin looks good. If it’s slowing down the aging process, only time will tell. But I’m a avid user of anti-aging skincare, so I fully intend on keeping this moisturizer as part of my daily skincare.
Overall, I really like the L’Oreal 35+ Wrinkle Expert Day/Night Moisturizer. It makes my skin feel healthy and hydrated and it may also be helping my skin stay a little more youthful. I don’t love the naming of the products with the ages, but it’s something I can look past. If you’re on the hunt for a solid anti-aging moisturizer from the drugstore, I recommend picking up a L’Oreal Wrinkle Expert Moisturizer.
