Product Review: Maybelline Snapscara Washable Mascara

on

Mascara is one of those makeup items that I absolutely love testing out. Luckily, the drugstore has some great options and drugstore brands are always coming out with new mascaras. The latest and greatest mascara to hit drugstore shelves is the new Maybelline Snapscara. With claims to be a clump-free, volumizing mascara that can easily come off at the end of the day, I tested the new Maybelline Snapscara out to see if the claims are true. Will it beat out my go-to favorite, L’Oreal Lash Paradise? Let’s see!

For starters, the price tag is just what you’d hope for – only $5.99. That price point is actually cheaper than some other mascaras at the drugstore, like the L’Oreal Lash Paradise priced at $8.99 (the higher price is totally worth it.) So from the price perspective, picking up this mascara barely left a dent in my wallet.

The brush is a natural bristle brush, which tend to be my favorite compared to a plastic bristle, and is slightly curved. The curve looks like it’s designed to hug the shape of your eye and hit all your lashes at once. When I applied the first coat, I definitely had to work for some payoff. It didn’t really give much volume, but I did notice some lengthening and darkening. Not too bad, but I was looking forward to seeing what the second coat could do. I wait a minute before applying the second coat and I really didn’t notice too much of a difference. Maybe a touch more volume, but not much of anything else. It didn’t clump, but I almost wish it did. All-in-all, I prefer a more volumizing mascara. I don’t need much more length than what I naturally have. Needless to say, I was disappointed that the claims to be a volumizing mascara fell flat, but it was a pretty good lengthening mascara. For those of you who favor a lengthening mascara, this might be a good one to try.

Now for the ultimate test – does it really come off in a snap? I used a Equate Soothing Makeup Removing Wipe (my absolute favorite makeup wipes and they are only $3!) to remove my makeup and the mascara did come off pretty easy. I normally don’t have to do too much rubbing to remove my eye makeup, but I noticed slightly less effort was needed when removing the Maybelline Snapscara.

Overall thoughts? I think this is a great option for those of you looking for a lengthening mascara or a natural mascara. In my daily life, I like a mascara that really amps up the volume for my lashes so the Maybelline Snapscara didn’t end up being my favorite. Don’t get me wrong though – I forsee myself using this mascara on no-makeup makeup days when I’m going for a more natural look.

What kind of mascara do you prefer? Something more lengthening or something more volumizing? Maybe a little bit of both? Let me know in the comments below!
