Subscription beauty boxes have been popular for years now. It’s a great easy way to try out a bunch of different beauty products for a low cost. Most beauty boxes are based on a monthly subscription where you pay a flat fee each month and you receive a box of goodies on your doorstep every month. Since beauty boxes have become very popular, it’s no surprise that different stores and retailers are joining in on the fun. The one retailer I was most surprised about having a beauty box was Walmart. I could see Sephora, Ulta, or even Target doing boxes, but Walmart just didn’t seem like the retailer to have such a customized service. I was wrong. Walmart has unveiled their Walmart Beauty Boxes…for only $5 each. FIVE DOLLARS PEOPLE. This is by far the cheapest beauty box subscription out there. I knew I had to take a look at these boxes when I heard about it, so let’s take a look together.
The Walmart Beauty Box subscription is a seasonal subscription where you pay only $5 every 3 months and get an adorable box filled to the brim with sample-size and full-size beauty products. Beauty boxes are curated to focus on a specific beauty need. For example, some boxes will include skincare designed to get your skin glowing. Another box would be one of the ones shown below — hair care products that are natural or hair care products designed to refresh your locks. You won’t find Walmart Beauty Boxes with some hair care, some skin care, some makeup, etc. Maybe that’s something Walmart will do in the future, but for now the boxes focus on a particular beauty need.
I got my hands on two of their hair care boxes — Influenced By Nature and Refresh, Renew, Extend. The crazy part about these boxes (other than the fact that they are only $5 each) is that I didn’t have to subscribe to the service — I found them neatly displayed at my local Walmart. I think having them both in-store and as a seasonal subscription is an incredible idea. It’s something other beauty box companies can’t do. Having it in-store helps bring awareness to their new service, engages customers in the beauty aisle, and makes it so easily accessible. There are definitely people who just don’t want to go through the trouble of buying a subscription to try out new products and would rather just buy it in the store. This is something that Sephora does with their curated trial boxes. You can walk in to the store or go on the website and buy a box of 10 different sample-size mascaras. Walmart appears to have taken note of this convenience that Sephora offers and I am here for it.
But back to the good stuff — what’s inside of these affordable beauty boxes? With the 2 boxes I got, each included 1 full-size product and 6-7 sample-size products. The full size product in the Refresh, Renew, Extend favorites box was the got2b Fresh It Up Dry Shampoo. This is a pretty good dry shampoo. It has the classic white formula and made my hair look cleaner and smell good. Warning: the smell is quite strong, but it only lingers for a little while. I also received 6 sample size products — a Batiste dry shampoo, a Hask Charcoal dry shampoo, an OGX Coconut Miracle Oil dry shampoo, a Herbal Essences foam conditioner, a Nexxus protein treatment mask packet, and a L’oreal Elvive Damage Erasing Balm packet. Let me just say, all of these products are great, especially for only $5. Even if it was only the Nexxus Protein Treatment (which should last you 4-5 uses) and the Batiste dry shampoo, that more than covers the cost of the box.
In the Influenced By Nature favorites box, the full-size product is the Garnier Frutis Nourishing Treat 1-Minute Hair Mask, which is a great hair mask I love. Sample-size products include a Ranpure Advanced Tea Tree & Lemon Sage Shampoo & Conditioner, Love, Beauty & Planet Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner, a Hask Orchid & White Truffle Deep Conditioner, Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask, and a Palmer’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack. With the goodies in this box, your hair will be super healthy and you’ll be doing so with great natural products. Again even if it was only the mini shampoos & conditioners in the box, it would be worth the $5 but you get so much more for your money.
Honestly, this might be one of my favorite things Walmart has ever done. Correction: This is my favorite thing Walmart has ever done. It’s something so unexpected from the biggest mass retailer in the county, but it’s a beautiful idea for its customers. It give you the opportunity to try out a bunch of products. The best part is if you love a product from the box enough to go out and buy the full-size product, you know it won’t break the bank.
